Differential Pressure (Dp)
Differential pressure (Dp) is the difference in static pressure between two points in a fluid at rest. The static pressure is the force per unit area exerted by the fluid on a surface in contact with it. Differential pressure is commonly expressed in units of pounds per square inch (psi) or inches of water column (in wc).
Differential pressure can be caused by many factors, including gravity, temperature, and friction. In HVAC systems, it is often used to measure the difference in air pressure between two points, such as between the inside and outside of a building. It can also be used to measure the difference in water pressure between two points, such as between the top and bottom of a tank.
Differential pressure sensors are used to measure differential pressure. They are available in many different types, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic.
