Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (Dhcp)

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (Dhcp)

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network protocol used to assign IP addresses and other network parameters to devices connected to a network. DHCP is typically used to Configure devices that are plugged into a network, such as laptops, phones, and printers.

When a device connects to a network, it will send a DHCP request to the server. The server will then assign an IP address and other parameters to the device. The assigned IP address will be used by the device to communicate with other devices on the network.

DHCP is often combined with Network Address Translation (NAT) to allow devices on a private network to communicate with devices on the public Internet. NAT allows multiple devices on a private network to share a single public IP address.
