Facility Management

Facility management is a profession that encompasses the coordination of space, infrastructure, people and organization within the built environment. It is the practice of coordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organization. It integrates the principles of business administration, architecture, and the behavioral and engineering sciences. Facility management includes a wide range of activities such as the management of office space, buildings, and grounds; maintenance and operations; safety and security; energy management; communications; and furniture and equipment. Facility managers are responsible for ensuring that the organization’s physical environment is safe, efficient, and productive. They must also ensure that the organization’s facility is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Facility managers must be knowledgeable in a variety of areas, including construction, engineering, finance, and environmental health and safety. They must also be able to effectively manage a team of employees and contractors, as well as coordinate with other departments within the organization. Facility management is an important part of any organization, as it helps to ensure that the physical environment is conducive to the organization’s goals and objectives.
