BMS Controls Glossary

Hvac

Hvac

building management system (BMS), also known as a building automation system (BAS), is a computer-based system that controls and monitors the mechanical, security, and lighting systems in a commercial or industrial facility. The BMS is designed to improve the efficiency of these systems and to provide occupants with a comfortable and safe environment.

The BMS may also be used to control access to the facility, to monitor energy usage, and to provide data for use in facilities management. The BMS consists of software and hardware that are installed throughout the facility. The software is used to monitor and control the systems, while the hardware components include sensors, controllers, and actuators. The BMS may be controlled by a central computer or by individual controllers located in each area of the facility. The system may be operated manually or automatically.
