What is the definition of a mini split? A mini split is a form of a ductless air conditioning system that is designed for cooling and/or heating smaller spaces. It is composed of two parts: an outdoor compressor/condenser and an indoor air-handling unit. The outdoor part is mounted on the exterior wall or roof of the building, while the indoor part is mounted inside. The indoor air-handling unit is sold in a variety of sizes and styles, with most models ranging between 6,000 and 36,000 BTUs.
