Monitoring-Based Commissioning (Mbcx)
Monitoring-Based Commissioning (Mbcx)
Monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) is a systematic process that uses continuous monitoring of a building’s energy performance to identify and track opportunities for optimizing its operation. MBCx can be used on new or existing buildings, and is adaptable to buildings of all sizes and types. The core idea of MBCx is to leverage the data from a building’s control system to identify areas where the building is not performing as intended, and then work with the building’s staff to improve its operation.
The goal of MBCx is to optimize a building’s energy performance, while also improving occupant comfort and safety. MBCx projects typically follow these steps:
1. Assess: Review the existing conditions and baseline performance of the building.
2. Diagnose: Identify opportunities for improvement by analyzing data from the building’s control system.
3. Prescribe: Develop recommendations for improving the building’s operation.
4. Implement: Work with the building’s staff to implement the recommendations.
5. Monitor: Continuously monitor the building’s energy performance to identify additional opportunities for optimization.
