A personal area network (PAN) is a type of computer network used for communication among computing devices, such as computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, in close proximity to the user. A PAN may be used for personal, business, or both purposes. A PAN typically has a range of up to 10 meters (about 33 feet). The devices in a PAN are usually linked wirelessly, although they can be connected by cable as well. Bluetooth is a popular technology used to create PANs.
