BMS Controls Glossary

Physical Access Control

Physical Access Control is the process of granting or denying access to buildings, areas, and other physical spaces. It encompasses everything from securing a single door with a standard lock and key system to more advanced multi-layered measures such as biometric authentication systems. Its purpose is to provide enhanced security and safety while increasing convenience and efficiency. With Physical Access Control, organizations can selectively control who is granted access to their facilities and equipment by using a variety of electronic locks, CCTV surveillance, and monitoring devices that are easily managed and monitored by an authorized staff member. By clearly defining the parameters of the desired level of security and then implementing it in an effective manner, organizations of any size can make sure that their sensitive information and property remain safe even in times of heightened risk.
