Uninterrupted Power Supply (Ups)

Uninterrupted Power Supply (Ups)

When it comes to managing a building, having an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) is crucial. A UPS is a device that provides backup power in the event of a power outage. It can also provide power during times of brownouts or other fluctuations in the power grid. Building management systems (BMSs) often rely on UPSs to keep things running smoothly.

If the power goes out, the UPS will keep the BMS up and running until the power is restored. This is critical for maintaining things like temperature and humidity levels, as well as security and fire safety systems.

There are different types of UPSs, but the most common is the standby UPS. This type of UPS kicks in when there is a loss of power from the utility company. The battery backup provides power until the utility company can restore service.

Other types of UPSs include line interactive and online. Line interactive UPSs are similar to standby UPSs, but they constantly monitor voltage levels and can correct minor fluctuations without switching to battery power. Online UPSs provide constant battery backup and protection from both brownouts and blackouts. No matter which type of UPS you choose, having one in place is essential for any BMS.
