Water To Water Heat Pump

What is the definition of a water to water heat pump? A water to water heat pump is a type of heat pump that uses water as the source of heat transfer, instead of air. It is used to transfer heat from a source of water to another destination, typically a hot water tank. In a typical water to watewater heat pump system, a compressor circulates a refrigerant through a closed loop system, drawing heat from the source water, and transferring it to the destination water. This process, known as the vapor-compression cycle, is similar to the air-to-air heat pump, but is more efficient. The efficiency of the water to water heat pump is further increased by the fact that water has a much higher thermal capacity than air, allowing it to transfer more heat energy, per unit mass. Additionally, water to water heat pumps are able to take advantage of the latent heat of vaporization as the refrigerant changes from liquid to vapor, providing an additional source of
