BMS Controls Glossary

Actuators.

Actuators are mechanical devices that convert energy into motion. They are used in a variety of applications, from controlling the movement of robotic arms to opening and closing valves in industrial systems. In essence, an actuator is a device that takes an input signal and uses it to move or control a mechanism. This could be anything from a motor to a hydraulic cylinder. The input signal can come from a variety of sources, such as a computer, a switch, or a sensor. The output of the actuator is usually a mechanical force, such as a push or pull, or a rotational force. Actuators are used in a wide range of industries, from aerospace to medical, and are used to control the motion of machines, valves, and other mechanical systems. They are also used in consumer products, such as garage door openers and automatic window blinds. Actuators are an essential part of many automated systems, and are used to control the motion of a variety of mechanisms.
