BMS Controls Glossary

Air Cooled

The definition of an air cooled engine is one that uses air to cool the engine instead of a liquid coolant. This type of engine is typically found in motorcycles, small cars, and other vehicles that don’t require a large amount of power. Air cooled engines are usually lighter and less expensive than liquid cooled engines, and they require less maintenance. They also generate less heat, which can be beneficial in some applications. The main disadvantage of air cooled engines is that they are less efficient at dissipating heat, so they can overheat if they are used in high-performance applications. Additionally, air cooled engines are more susceptible to dirt and debris, which can cause them to overheat and fail.
