Coefficient Of Performance (COP)
The coefficient of performance (COP) is a ratio derived from the work performed by a heat pump compared to the amount of power it consumes. The higher the COP, the more efficient the heat pump. For example, a heat pump with a COP of 3 would be three times more efficient than one with a COP of 1.
To calculate the COP, divide the work performed by the heat pump (in BTUs) by the power it consumes (in watts). For example, if a heat pump has a capacity of 10,000 BTUs and consumes 3,500 watts, its COP would be 2.86 (10,000 divided by 3,500).
