BMS Controls Glossary

Pump

Pump

building management system (BMS) is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. A BMS typically consists of software and hardware components. The software component is the central nervous system of the BMS and resides on one or more computers, which are connected to each other and to the various peripheral devices via communication networks.

The hardware components include input/output devices such as sensors, controllers, and actuators that are connected to the communication network. The main purpose of a BMS is to provide a safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient environment for the occupants of a building. A well-designed BMS can help reduce a building’s operating costs by optimizing the use of its mechanical and electrical equipment. In addition, a BMS can help reduce the environmental impact of a building by reducing its energy consumption.
