A building management system (BMS), also known as a building automation system (BAS), is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. A BMS typically consists of hardware (e.g., controllers, sensors, actuators) and software (e.g., applications, databases) that are used to collect data from the various devices in the building, process the data, and provide information and control commands to the devices.
The following are common features of BMS systems: – Monitoring of environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, air quality)
– Control of HVAC equipment (e.g., heating, ventilation, air conditioning)
– Lighting control
– Security management (e.g., access control, intrusion detection)
– Fire safety management
