BMS Controls Glossary

Input/Output

Input/Output (I/O) is a term used to describe the communication between an information processing system, such as a computer, and the outside world. It is the process of sending data from a computer system to another device or program, and receiving data back. This can include data sent to a printer, a display, a storage device, or a network. Input/Output is essential for any computer system, as it is the means by which data is transferred in and out of the system. Input/Output can be divided into two categories: input and output. Input is the data that is sent to the computer system, while output is the data that is sent from the computer system. For example, when you type a word into a word processor, the word is sent to the computer as input, and when you print the document, the document is sent from the computer as output.
