BMS Controls Glossary

Package Units Hvac

A package unit HVAC is a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system that is pre-fabricated and factory built in a single unit. It is typically composed of an evaporator coil, condenser coil, fan, compressor and other components. This single unit is typically mounted outside of the building and supplies both heating and cooling air to the inside of the building. This is different from split system HVAC systems which consist of a separate outdoor unit and an indoor unit that are connected with refrigerant lines. Package units are designed for easy installation and are often used in residential and small commercial applications. They are usually more reliable and require less maintenance than split systems. The definition of a package unit HVACHVAC system is a single, pre-fabricated unit that provides heating, ventilation, and air conditioning for a building, typically installed outside the building.
