BMS Controls Glossary

Absorption

Absorption is a process in which one substance takes in another. It is a type of physical or chemical phenomenon in which atoms, molecules, or ions enter into a solution or a solid material. This process can be used to describe a variety of phenomena, including the uptake of liquids, gases, and other substances into a solid or liquid. Absorption is an important process in many industries, such as the pharmaceutical industry, where drugs are absorbed into the body, and the food industry, where nutrients are absorbed into the body. In addition, absorption is also used in the process of filtration, where particles are removed from a liquid or gas by passing it through a filter. Absorption is also used in the process of distillation, where liquids are separated from one another by passing them through a series of filters. Absorption is also used in the process of adsorption, where molecules or ions are attracted to a surface and then held there by electrostatic forces.
