Floating Control
A building management system (BMS), also known as a Building Automation System (BAS), is a computerized system that controls and monitors the mechanical and lighting systems in a building. The system typically consists of sensors, controllers, and actuators that are connected to a central control panel or network. The BMS can be used to control HVACHVAC systems, security systems, fire alarm systems, and other building automation functions.
The term “floating control” refers to a type of BMS control that allows the user to set a desired level for a particular function (such as temperature) and then allows the BMS to automatically adjust the settings for that function in order to maintain the desired level. For example, if the temperature in a room is set to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, the BMS will turn on the heating system when the room temperature falls below 70 degrees and turn off the heating system when the room temperature reaches 70 degrees.
This type of control can be useful in situations where it is difficult or impossible for the user to constantly monitor and adjust the settings of the BMS.
