Plant Room

Plant Room

A plant room is a room within a building that houses mechanical and electrical equipment. The term can also refer to a room that contains control panels for the building’s systems, such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).

Plant rooms are typically located on the roof or in the basement of a building. They may also be located in an outbuilding, such as a garage. The equipment in plant rooms is used to provide services to the occupants of the building, such as heating, cooling, and lighting.

The layout of plant rooms can vary depending on the type of equipment they contain. For example, HVAC plant rooms often have large ductwork and piping systems. Electrical plant rooms may contain switchgear and distribution boards.

The size of plant rooms also varies depending on the size of the building they are serving. Large buildings may have severalplant rooms spread throughout the building, while smaller buildings may have only one.

In some cases, the term ‘plant room’ is used interchangeably with ‘utility room.’ However, utility room is generally used to describe a space that houses items such as water heaters and furnaces, while plant room is used to describe a space that contains mechanical and electrical equipment for the whole building.
