BMS Controls Glossary

Static Pressure

Static Pressure

Static pressure is the force per unit area that a fluid exerts on a solid surface. In other words, it is the pressure that is exerted by the weight of a column of fluid. The SI unit for static pressure is the pascal (Pa), which is equal to one newton per square meter (N/m^2).

Building management system (BMS) are computer based systems that monitor and control the mechanical and electrical equipment in buildings. They are used to maintain comfort conditions, optimize energy usage, and ensure safety. A BMS typically consists of Sensors, Controllers, and Actuators. Sensors are devices that measure various conditions such as temperature, humidity, light level, and occupancy. Controllers use this information to regulate building systems such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).

Actuators are devices that convert controller signals into physical action, such as opening or closing a damper or turning on a fan.
