BMS Controls Glossary

Cooling

Cooling

A building management system (BMS) is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems.

A BMS is usually used to improve the energy efficiency of a building by automatically controlling the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system to maintain optimal indoor conditions. It can also be used to monitor and control other systems in the building such as the lighting or security system.

The term “building management system” can also refer to the software that is used to manage these systems. This software is typically hosted on a server within the building and can be accessed remotely by authorized users.
