A building management system (BMS) is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, fire systems, and security systems. A BMS typically consists of input devices (sensors), output devices (actuators), control devices (controllers and valves), an operator interface (workstations and Web browsers), communication networks, and software applications.
The purpose of a BMS is to provide a comfortable, safe, and energy-efficient environment for building occupants while maximizing the efficiency of the building’s systems. Building management systems help facility managers save energy, money, and time while improving comfort levels, safety, and security.
